Review:

Ok, let me just say for those of you thinking this was going to be another Ethan Day book with your cute funny character that is too sassy for his own good, who has the best one phrase lines that’s filled with lightheartedness that makes you laugh till you cry:  Think again. While I will tell you that there are some characters that do have their moments, this is a whole side of Mr. Day that you have never seen before and I want to say kudos to you, Ethan. This book is on a whole different plane. Literally!

I will admit that the after the somber beginning of the book, things started happening that kept me guessing. Just when I thought I knew what the plot of the story was it took a total 360 degree turn that had me rethinking everything. This book jumps though time and POV’s but don’t worry it is not that hard to keep up. With that said, there was a few points in the book where I had to turn back a few pages because something said in the beginning that you thought was insignificant was not the case by the time you got closer to the end.

Zachary lost the man that he loved, Nick, who was murdered by Zachary’s sister in a plan to force him to renounce his powers to her. She promises that Nick was not the first nor will he be the last in her quest to get what she wants. Zachary is heartbroken and lost. Wallowing in guilt and the pain of losing Nick. Trying to drown out everything in a haze of Vodka and cigarettes. Dave, Zac’s friend and hired worker of the antiques store Zac owns, comes to pull him up an out of the hole he is in.

Finding out that Zachary is in the will of a recently deceased 50’s Hollywood movie star, Marc Castle, starts a chain of events that you can’t begin to imagine. What happens when the man you thought you loved and lost was not the only man you loved? How do you know the layout and items of a house that you have never been in? What if the man you thought was your friend is really there for something else. These are just a few questions that have to be answered.

Ethan did a great job linking everything together. I found myself “following the white rabbit” of the matrix. Sucked into the sandstorm of events as they are unfolding. This book has murder, mystery, torture, magic, sophistication and of course love. The ending is not too shabby either adding a twister of events to help “restore the balance”. I look forward to more books like this from this author.  Although I can’t help but to want to read another sassy character or two.
