Review: This was an extremely difficult book to rate because the stories are literally just flashes. They aren’t “stories” exactly, but more like a glimpse or an excerpt of what the actual book would be. This made it hard for me because I kept expecting to get to read the rest. I gave it a 2 overall because while it does admit to being just “flashes” there really wasn’t anything of substance with most of the stories (mainly just because it was like reading the first chapter of many stories)
There were a few that were so interesting if only they’d have been complete. For example, the first story, An Inconvenient Death, is wicked and funny, couldn’t wait to read it but it literally ends where the real story would start. I was so disappointed. Another, An Unexpected Visitor, has a great premise (boyfriend cheats with best friend, but the cheaters best friend has been waiting for a chance at her). There is a sex scene and a “you’re mine” and over. No!
Beauty in the Darkness is interesting as well, but we get plopped right in the middle of it –how did he get there? Why was he there?
My favorite of the bunch (which also ends abruptly before it’s finished) is Spin the Bottle, which I SO wish was a regular length story so we could get the whole thing. His Lordship’s Journal is a love letter of sorts from the lord to his lover.
If you are looking for a book tease, this is it. This is a way to see if an author’s writing style appeals to you, as well, but if cliffhangers and abrupt endings bother you, this isn’t for you.
