Can a pickup line from a stranger completely change the way an ordinary man sees himself?
Adrian wouldn’t have thought so, but after an ugly breakup where his self-esteem took a serious beating, he’s willing to try just about anything to repair the damage…even return to a secluded bar in rural Maryland and the intriguing stranger whose words have been on his mind since they met.
Biker, bouncer, bartender, and tattoo artist, Wyatt is a rolling stone. After 15 years, he is tired of a life on the run, but he isn’t sure he knows how to do anything else or if he has anything besides a physical relationship to offer.
What’s supposed to be a one-off turns into another and another, and the relationship looks promising until the mob and the FBI come knocking on Adrian’s door.
I enjoyed this audiobook immensely! From the outstanding narration by Nick J. Russo, to the characters and their situation, and the mystery and the intrigue surrounding Adrian’s job.
Adrian and his soon-to-be-ex, Martin, need a phone after Adrian’s car breaks down when he takes Martin on a picnic intended to rekindle their relationship by spending some fun time together. Finding no cell service in the rural area, they stumble upon what Adrian learns (when he goes in) is a leather bar out in the sticks. Since he’s the top in his relationship he’s the one who goes in—and there he meets Wyatt, a strong, muscular, leather-clad man who whispers sexy secrets in Adrian’s ear, including what he’d like to do with a hot little “power bottom” like Adrian. Scoffing internally, Adrian tells him his boyfriend is waiting and walks away from the hot man.
But that one phrase sticks with him and when he catches Martin in a lie about another man, he’s free to pursue his thoughts on that catch phrase. Not surprisingly, he ends up back at that bar, looking for Wyatt, and when he finds him, he finds out just what a hot little power bottom he can be. The two embark on a once a week motel visit fling and it’s not until the sh*t hits the fan at his job that their two lives merge more completely.
Wyatt has been running, for what seems like forever, from the mob that saw him as their ticket to getting back the money his father owed them. Now, when he spots a vehicle with two passengers who seem to be staking out the motel room where he and Adrian meet, he runs again. It isn’t immediate, but he eventually finds out it’s Adrian they’re staking out. Adrian’s place of business has been under surveillance for a while and he’s gotten inadvertently mixed up in a sting.
I don’t want to give the whole plot away, but I’m trying to show that the story is indeed complex, and sometimes convoluted, but the solution is everything I would hope for in an MM romance novel. Missing money, shootouts, FBI, mob—all the things I enjoyed during my early TV-watching years—now in my romance novel. What’s not to like?
I recommend this to lovers of MM romance, especially if you love the underdog, a clueless power bottom and his hot leather lover, and lots of action. And be sure to get the audiobook because Nick J. Russo brings it all to life!
