Summary: Eric Courtland is hungry for revenge—at any cost—against the cold, unfeeling father who never loved him, and who drove his mother to an early grave. Tossed headfirst into the shark-tank world of big business, Eric soon learns it’s eat or be eaten, and has no choice but to throw in his lot with ruthless titan of industry Branford Crane.
Still reeling from his mother’s death—and the guilt of not being able to save her—Eric plunges into a dark spiral of self-destruction, rejecting his longtime partner Nick’s love and support in favor of the harsh tutelage Bran offers him, in and out of the bedroom.
But one night, when Bran finally pushes Eric beyond any reasonable limit, Eric realizes how far he’s fallen—and how desperately he needs Nick to help pull him back from the edge.
Review: This is a sequel to By Chance. It takes place about a year later from the first book. I have to admit I felt like I missed something during the first year but as I continued on into the story, I wasn’t lost anymore. I can easily say that I didn’t like the new Eric in this book, although I did understand why he was acting like that. It wasn’t fair to Nick, being left out. Being a partner/lover was the key into supporting each other. Eric suddenly became a workaholic. It basically was all about Eric trying to get his revenge against his father and to prove Eric was a good son. The way he needed to go through that was hard. There were certain moments where I felt sorry for Eric, but it didn’t give him any excuses for the way he treated Nick. I sure as hell hope Eric would tell Nick the truth. It was like…”If you never tell your lover what turns you on, then how do you know how your lover reacts to it if you didn’t try?”
Nevertheless, it is a good read. It slightly have BDSM element to it. It was nothing too hardcore, just Eric’s kinks. At the ending, it actually gave me goose bumps from the conversation between Eric and his father. The only character I actually didn’t like at all was Bran. He was a jerk. I still recommend this to the readers. I can assure you there was no cheating between Eric and Nick. 🙂
