When Peter Carr’s company sends him to Southwestern Ontario to sweet-talk the town into agreeing to a gravel quarry proposal, he welcomes the challenge. Technically he’s a lawyer, but really he’s a problemsolver. He just never expected the problem to be Caleb Sinclair, the passionate but introverted artisan carpenter who lives next to the proposed quarry site.

“Know your enemy.” That’s Caleb’s philosophy. And trying to turn fertile farmland into a gravel pit earns Peter the title of “enemy.” Caleb loves that land, and if he has to make peace with his homophobic neighbors to make war on Peter, so be it. Except knowing his enemy doesn’t turn out anything like he expected. Peter’s not the fairy-tale monster-he just might be the first step to happy ever after.

This is a remarkable story by this author and one I must say has impressed me very much. The love between the two characters makes them both see that first impressions can sometime be wrong and preconceptions might have led to them missing out on love.

“Is this all there is to life?” That is a question Peter Carr is about to have to answer when complications appear, in the form of Caleb Sinclair. Caleb’s family has spent five generations managing and living on their family farm.  Their way of life is about to change with the arrival of a new corporation that wants to build a rock quarry next to the farm. While some find the new enterprise to be a benefit for the town,  Caleb knows that all is not what it seems and sets about to fight for his land and his town from being taking over. The only problem is he never counted on falling in love with his nemesis.

Peter Carr has spent all his life talking his way in and out of deals that would benefit him and his company. But now that does not seem to be enough when he is shown what life is like in this small farming community and the people that call it home. The more time he spends with the handsome and sweet talking Caleb, the more he realize that life is not always about the next big deal and more about the person you find yourself falling in love with.

I have never read much by this author, but I can promise you this will not be my last book by her. She truly talented in building a story that can be loved by anyone looking for a little romance in your day to day lives.
