Summary: Todd Hunter knows Deacon Jones is the one for him, and despite pressure from his family he’s determined they’ll spend the Christmas holidays together. Can he convince Deacon that their different backgrounds shouldn’t keep them apart?

When Todd Hunter went to university, he left behind his boyfriend, Deacon Jones. Todd knows Deacon is the one he wants to spend the rest of his life with, but for some reason Deacon has stopped returning his calls and is ignoring all his letters.

Now Todd is home for the holidays, and he wants to spend them with Deacon. It might not be so easy though. Neither Todd’s family nor Deacon’s are happy about their relationship; and while Todd knows if they stand together they can make it work, convincing Deacon may be the greatest challenge of all.

Review: Todd and Deacon were high school sweethearts, even if they come from opposite sides of the track – Todd is going to college and wants to go into politics, Deacon has an alcoholic and abusive father and his brother joins in as he gets older.

In Todd’s first semester, he suddenly stops hearing from Deacon, and as he heads home for Christmas, he wonders if Deacon has moved on, but he wants to know the truth before he decides if he’ll fight for him or move on as well – he had always hoped that they would spend their lives together.

Todd’s family try and get Todd to move on, going so far as to try and work Deacon to stay away from him.

Family issues also turn out to be the reason Todd stopped hearing from Deacon, and Deacon starts thinking it would be better for Todd to forget him as well.

Fortunately, Todd is not as willing to give up as everyone else!
Can love heal? Can it survive being apart? Can Deacon be strong enough for himself as well as Todd?

I really enjoyed these characters – there are times it seemed like the story wanted to go into more detail or be longer than it was, and there is another Silver Short story with these characters, so you can definitely revisit them again! Happy for now, but hopefully we’ll get to see more of these two men and how the dynamics of their families are allowed to affect what they feel for each other.
