Justin Hawthorne worked hard to realize his silver-screen dreams, making his way from small-town Pennsylvania to Hollywood and success. But it hasn’t come without sacrifice. When Justin’s father kicked him out for being gay, George Miller’s family offered to take him in, but circumstances prevented it. Now Justin is back in town and has come face to face with George, the man he left without so much as a good-bye… and the man he’s never stopped loving.
Justin’s disappearance hit George hard, but he’s made a life for himself as a home nurse and finds fulfillment in helping others. When he sees Justin again, George realizes the hole in his heart never mended, and he isn’t the only one in need of healing. Justin needs time out of the public eye to find himself again, and George and his mother cannot turn him away. As they stay together in George’s home, old feelings are rekindled. Is a second chance possible when everything George cares about is in Pennsylvania and Justin must return to his career in California? First they’ll have to deal with the reason for Justin’s abrupt departure all those years ago.
In Andrew Grey’s typical way, he has created a sweet couple, separated in their late teens and reunited now by the death of one’s father. When Justin left home it was because that father, and the mother who passed away while he was gone, kicked him out for being gay. And though he could have stayed at his boyfriend George’s house, he left town after work that night without a word to anyone.
Years later, he meets George again at his father’s deathbed. George has been the home visit nurse who’s been caring for his father, and as soon as they see each other, the warmth and love that they once had blossoms again. Over the course of the week Justin is in town, he learns many truths, including his father’s remorse for disowning him and his own love for the boy he left behind. And though George knows that Justin, now a famous Hollywood actor, is about to leave again, he allows his heart to open and to fall in love all over again.
A reunited romance, many readers will enjoy this one, especially since the star-crossed lovers seem fated to spend their lives three thousand miles apart. George can’t leave his mother in their small Pennsylvania town, and Justin can’t leave Hollywood at the height of his career. And when the truth finally comes out about why Justin chose that night to leave his hometown, George’s heart breaks and he knows he just can’t live without his man.
There’s nothing extremely outstanding or extremely bad about this story. It’s as I said: a typical Andrew Grey romance. Sweet, wonderful characters who overcome their sad past and find a way to carve a future together. Perfect for those who love a simple MM romance.
