Two hundred years ago on Christmas Eve, William Mashinter was frozen in time, cursed by his wife to roam the world on his own, waiting for the love of his life to find him. The love of his life, whom she killed. Time hasn’t healed this wound, and William is tired of the happy holiday and the constant reminders of a love that’s been taken from him. But then the impossible happens, and maybe… maybe he can get a new Christmas perspective.
Brady Gallagher has lived three different lives, always aware of the first and most important, yet unable to find the man who will fill in the missing pieces and let him know he’s not crazy. He encounters him at a work event, of all places, but is he willing to throw everything else to the wind and embrace the miracle laid out before him?
This was a fantastic story. Told from William’s perspective, we learn about his love Brady and the events that separated them and ruined the Christmas holiday for him. I’m amazed by how much detail and emotion the author was able to pack into such a short time. We got a perfect snapshot of what William’s life was like before he was cursed, and we learned exactly enough about what his life is like now to understand what is happening in the present. The writing was great and the story was clear and emotional. Truly, a lot of ground was covered in just 50 pages and I loved every second of it.
For a short story, I think this was wonderfully done and I feel everything was well explained and wrapped up well. While the story didn’t need any more details, I am curious about what William and Brady’s lives were like while they were separated. But we are given some details to fill in the blanks ourselves, and I think the author was wise to spend more time on the present. And the epilogue melted my heart and filled me with Christmas cheer!
This delightful holiday short is something I would highly recommend! Especially if you love soul mates and books that feature dark magic and happy love stories.
