Jamie “Roxy” Albright has one great love in his life and room for no other. He lives and breathes makeup. Men are nothing more than temporary distractions and romance… well, that isn’t worth his time. With a burgeoning career as a YouTube makeup artist opening doors to never before dreamed of opportunities, time isn’t something Jamie has and distractions aren’t something he can afford.

Instagram model and shirtless wonder Tyler Jackson is quickly falling for elusive Jamie. How it went from a seemingly innocent message to feelings, he’ll never know. Their chemistry is instant and fiery hot, and Tyler’s never been that good at self control. The challenges are endless, though. There’s Jamie’s walls to break through and a country worth of space between them. And just when things are starting to look up, life throws a wrench in the works.

Jamie has that absolute confidence on screen, the make up empire to be, as well as the always changing hair color, that make a popular YouTube star.  It might just be me but I thought this story had a definite flair of Jeffree Starr to it.  Even to the point of Tyler refusing to have his waterline touched (which Jeffree’s boyfriend, Nathan, did on one episode).  But I digress.  Jamie’s mom, a stripper, taught him the magic of make up when he was a little boy and despite bullying and taking crap for it, he loves it and has made it a part of who he is.  He has turned it into a big time moneymaker, with two awesome best friends in Lorelei and Mattie, and shares his make-up, love life, sex life and himself with his fans.  Except he keeps things, like his real eye color, to himself.  He’s also got a big crush on Tyler Jackson.  Tyler is a Nashville based Instagram star model who is ridiculously cute with his dogs and so kind with his fans.  Maybe it’s the obscene cuteness of the dogs that brings it over the top but Jamie wants to sleep with this guy.

Except when they start to message, that’s not how things go.  They end up talking.  And talking.  And getting to know each other.  Jamie may be open about sex but his heart is incredibly guarded and no one is getting past that. When Tyler has a shoot in LA, they get a chance to meet in person and it was awkward and sweet. “Super weird.  Like, I know you but not really…… This almost feels like a blind date.  I wasn’t expecting that.”  Made perfect sense and while Jamie was all about just hopping into bed, Tyler demanded a date.  The cutest date ever and even Jamie had to admit he had a good time.

These two embark on a cross country long distance relationship that is made more difficult by their schedules and by Jamie’s inability to admit anything besides a one off is a good thing.  They have a ton of messaging, which I loved.

“Jamie:  So you have a cold and you’re mansplaining.”

“Tyler:  It’s not a cold.  It’s the end of my life flashing before my eyes.  I can’t breathe.  I can’t eat.  It hurts to move.”

OMG, #mancold and I was laughing through it.

Things aren’t simple for these guys.  Tyler is the braver one, wanting to make it work and talking things out with his best friend, Dan, who is utterly awesome.  Sometimes I was so frustrated with Jamie, who was sort of taking advantage of Tyler being so incredibly patient.  Jamie wants things he doesn’t think he should want, even when Mattie and Lorelei try to talk to him.  Lorelei, so wise, has to let Jamie know that when you go into a relationship thinking it will fail “Thinking that is as good as planning it.”   When she tells him, “It’s okay to get hurt.  It won’t kill you and you will move on.  A broken heart is not the end of the world” it’s like an epiphany moment for Jamie.  No risk, no gain.

A deal with Lush (jealous, because I love them!) and maybe a make up line are on the forefront as well and that adds just more stress to the whole thing.  They both travel, they both work hard in nontraditional jobs.  What to do?

I loved watching the development of the relationship and the maturation of Jamie.  They both have mother issues and have to grapple with that but I think Jamie had the farthest to go.  The man that can say, “I don’t need him to be happy, if I’m being honest, but I’d like him to be around to share in my happiness and add to it” has grown a lot.

As a side mention, I was very worried about what would happen to Dan and was very satisfied with the outcome there!
