Tour: Nic Starr – Patrick’s Savior (Heroes #3)

What makes a hero?

Way back when I first thought of my Heroes series, I had an idea of the type of heroes I wanted to portray. I wanted my main characters to be ordinary men who are heroes in the eyes of those who love them. They may not save the world or put their lives on the line, or maybe they do 😊, but their actions are heroic. So my series, as well as featuring fire-fighters and paramedics, also stars teachers, and mechanics, and office workers.

Patrick’s Savior is Patrick and Simon’s story. Patrick is an administrative assistant with a heart of gold. He’s friendly and outgoing, always helping other people, but trouble seems to follow Patrick everywhere. Murphy’s Law definitely applies to Patrick! Simon is a paramedic, but this story isn’t necessarily about Simon saving lives to prove he’s a hero. Simon is dealing with guilt and even doubting his ability to perform his job.

The story follows Patrick and Simon as they fall in love, while at the same time, dealing with a stalker. Along the way, both men prove themselves to be heroes, most importantly to each other.

I hope you enjoy Patrick and Simon’s story.

How do you find love when someone doesn’t want you to be happy?

Patrick Edwards is dealing with a double whammy. Unwanted attention from his housemate’s boyfriend is making him feel uncomfortable in his own home, and he’s facing uncertainty with his employment as an administrative assistant at the local elementary school. He finally breathes a sigh of relief when a friend puts him in contact with Simon, who has a vacant room.

Simon Dawson is a paramedic who doesn’t hesitate to help Patrick. After all, no one should live in a house where they don’t feel safe. Simon develops feelings for Patrick, but doesn’t act on them—Patrick’s moved from a bad situation and doesn’t need his new housemate hitting on him. However, a weekend away changes everything when Simon realizes Patrick returns his feelings.

But someone doesn’t want Patrick and Simon to be happy. A series of strange letters arrive at the house, and things will get a lot worse before the two men get their happily ever after.

Patrick’s Savior is a novel of approximately 69k words. It is part of a series but can be read stand-alone.

This is the third installment in the Heroes series but can be read as a standalone.   While I liked Charlie and Josh and Andrew and Tanner (the couples from the first two stories) I have been anxiously awaiting Patrick’s story.  He is awkward, funny and klutzy and I wanted him to get his HEA.   Patrick is a temporary administrative assistant at a school and he has become very uncomfortable with the attention he’s getting from his roommate, Dion’s, boyfriend.  Dion blows it off and it escalates to the point where Patrick has to move.  Patrick’s friends are concerned for him and his friend Josh looks for a solution. Enter Simon, the cute paramedic who has space for Patrick at his place.

Simon is lovely, so patient and gentle with Patrick.  He has an immediate crush but doesn’t want to make him uncomfortable but time together makes the two realize the feelings they each have are reciprocated.

Things get a little worrisome when it becomes clear that Patrick has a stalker.  I admit, the who of this was pretty clear but I was interested to see how it would play out. And I was so frustrated with Patrick, who was not only blind to what was going on but at times was actively rude to Simon about it.  There is one point where the housemates (there are four in the house) all agree that there can be no strangers in the house until they figure out what is going on with the stalker and the person who has someone in is Patrick!

The mystery took a little bit away from the romantic development between the two of them but not much.  I liked seeing them together and I like them as a couple.
